I think these categories are unclear what should be where. I think it would be easier to group them northeast (+,+), southeast (+,-), southwest (-,-) and northwest (-,+). Purine 03:21, 26 January 2012 (CST)

Good point... I had just been going off whichever coordinate had the greater absolute value. Here's what the categories would look like grouped that way:
Northwest (-x, -z) Northeast (+x, -z) Southwest (-x, +z) Southeast (+x, +z)
One downside though, settlements right near the compass points sort of get lumped into a category that doesn't really describe their location... same problem that already exists with the current grouping. For comparison's sake, I tried grouping them in 9 sectors:
Northwest (-x, -z) North (-z) Northeast (+x, -z)
West (-x) Central (<300 blocks from spawn) East (+x)
Southwest (-x, +z) South (+z) Southeast (+x, +z)
Does a decent job grouping settlements into regions, but the end result is a rather cluttered layout. --Bencvt 09:34, 26 January 2012 (CST)
